# Chat with Ve

> Ask Ve about the page you are on, or anything else, using the model subscription you connected.

Chat opens beside whatever you are reading, and Ve can see the page you are on.

<Warning>
  Chat needs a connected model subscription. See [Connect a
  model](/connect-a-model).
</Warning>

## Asking something

Type into the composer and press send.

## The page you are on

Ve gets the address and title of your current page with every message, along
with anything you have selected on it.

Selecting the part you mean is the reliable way to point at something specific.
A highlighted clause, table or paragraph goes across with your question.

## Where things go

Typed chat runs against a process on your own Mac. Your messages go from there
to whichever model provider you connected, under your own account.

**Voice is different.** A spoken conversation opens a connection to Ve's
servers to carry the audio. If that matters for what you are discussing, type
instead.

<Note>
  A message sent immediately after launching Ve can pause before it sends. The local process starts up alongside the browser.
