# Bring your data across

> Move bookmarks, history and saved logins from your old browser during setup, and cookies or open tabs later from Settings.

Ve offers to bring your old browser across during setup, in two steps: your
browsing data, then your saved logins. Both are optional, and skipping the
picker means no import runs.

## During setup

Ve looks for Chrome, Edge, Brave, Vivaldi, Opera, Arc, Dia and Comet.

If it finds several profiles you can bring over as many as you like; one button
selects or clears them all. Ve imports them together and shows progress.

Your open tabs are counted during setup so you can see what is there, but they
are not reopened. Cookies do not come across at this stage either. Both are
available afterwards.

Your download history comes across as a record of what you downloaded, never
the files themselves. Unlike browsing history it is not capped at 90 days.
Anything that was still downloading when you left is skipped.

  Signing in never depends on importing. If a step fails or you skip it, you
  still reach your workspace.

## What travels with your bookmarks

Bookmarks are not imported on their own. Anything Ve treats as general browsing
data comes with them:

* Custom search engines
* Saved addresses
* Favicons and your reading list
* Your custom spellcheck dictionary
* Per-site permissions: notifications, location, camera, microphone, clipboard,
  motion sensors, MIDI devices, popups, autoplay, sound, images, JavaScript and
  automatic downloads

  Extensions come too. Ve reinstalls any extension you had from the Chrome Web
  Store, fetching each one from the store. Extensions you loaded from disk
  cannot be reinstalled and are skipped. Nothing is installed twice if you
  import again.

If you would rather not carry a permission or an extension across, review them
after importing.

## Afterwards, from Settings

Open `Settings > General`. Three options:

| Import from another browser | Everything above, plus passwords and cookies                           |
| Import bookmarks            | The general browsing data above, without history, passwords or cookies |
| Import open tabs            | Reopens up to 40 tabs                                                  |

The first is the one worth knowing about. Because it carries cookies and site
storage, accounts you were signed into in your old browser are still signed in.
Reload any open tabs afterwards to pick up those sessions.

## Passwords from a password manager

Ve fills credentials straight into sites. They stay local on your Mac and are
hidden from the AI.

1Password, Bitwarden, Dashlane and LastPass are listed during setup, but direct
import from them is not available yet. Passwords saved in your old browser do
come across.
